Sayonara KCS - 6

Hi, Once again the weather cooperated on our 6th day.

Our first photos were at the fueling pad at the north end of the Heavener yard.

On this day we wanted to concentrate on Rich Mountain so we headed south. At Zoe, OK we caught a southbound coal train 

                                        

with KCS DPUs.

                                     

We got ahead of the train at Page. OK (above and below). 

While at Page we photographed this train of coal empties

and this manifest in the siding. It would sit here all day.

Proceeding up Rich Mountain we caught the coal train one last time at Howard, AR (above and two below).

Then it was back to Heavener where the train on left was preparing to depart.

After getting a photo as it departed Heavener we gave chase catching the train

at Stapp, OK and

passing the standing freight we had photographed that morning at Page (above and below).

Part way up Rich Mountain we encountered this train of empties in the siding waiting for the train we were chasing.

Our final shots of the day were at West Mena, AR (above and below).

Sayonara KCS - 5

Hi, The morning of the fifth day of our trip was given over to photographing an excursion train on the Arkansas & Missouri powered by a pair of Alco C420s.

Our first shot was on the south side of Springdale, AR and the chase was on. 

We caught the train at Greenland, AR and 

Brentwood AR

before it arrived at its destination in Winslow, AR (above and three below) from which it would return to Springdale.

For the afternoon we returned to KCS where we photographed a northbound

which stopped a few minutes further on allowing photos on both sides of the train (above and below) and

a southbound 

we chased to Sallislaw, OK.

Our day ended with this northbound arriving in Heavener, OK.

Sayonara KCS - 4B

Hi, Here are the remaining photos from the fourth day of our April/May 2022 trip.

Our next location was at Wickes, AR (head end above and DPU below). This was some kind of unit tank train. However, since there was no buffer car behind the locomotive I assume the train was not carrying hazardous material.

From Wickes we continued north to Potter, AR (above and below).

Our first location in Oklahoma was at Paige where we found a northbound waiting.

Th remainder of the day was spent in Heavener, OK. First up was a southbound coal train with three DPUs (above and below).

A southbound was approaching the fueling pad with the railroad's unit honoring military veterans running as DPU.

The day ended with these photos of a southbound freight working the south end of the yard (above and below).

Sayonara KCS - 4A

Hi The fourth day of our trip was productive so I will split the blog post for this day in two.

We encountered our first train, coal empties with UP power, sitting in Ashdown, AR awaiting a new crew.

However, we were able to photograph a KCS crew switching (above and below) and

a Kiamichi crew making a delivery to the KCS (above and two below). The KCS mainline appears at the bottom of the two photos below. We found the paint on the older KCS locomotives in the retro Belle scheme to be in much better condition than the wide nose units as their repainting was much more recent.

 

The coal train waiting for a new crew in Ashdown got underway and we were able to photograph it again in Winthrop, AR.

When we arrived in DeQueen, AR a manifest freight was switching; probably the interchange with the DeQueen and Eastern.

Before the train headed south we relocated south of town (above and below). 

At Gilham, AR a southbound manifest was in the hole for a meet with

the northbound coal empties (above and below).
