OY Rotary Trip - 7, The eighth day

Hi, Days five and six of the trip were spent with the rotary while days four and seven were spent on the Escalante Western, all covered in blog posts 1 - 3.

It was now time to begin our trek back to California. We decided a revisit to North Guam was in order but we only had time for one train (above and two below) as there seemed to be a lull in traffic.

On a whim we took the Querino Rd. exit off I-40 near Houck, AZ and stumbled upon a rather interesting area (above and three below). Both trains were westbound. Hopefully I will get back for another, longer visit to this area.

After stopping on the east side of Flagstaff (above and below) for a westbound

we ended our day with another westbound passing the passenger station (above and below).

OY Rotary Trip - 6, The third day

Hi, Heading east from Flagstaff Dave and I spotted an eastbound train just out of town so we raced ahead to Winona where we caught it from an overpass. 

Soon we had a westbound train with a DPU

and then another eastbound.

We caught the last eastbound we shot at Winona again on the west side of Winslow, AZ.

The stack train was followed very shortly by a grain train with a "Grinstein Green" SD70MAC leading.

Moving on we continued to Lupton, AZ, on the New Mexico border (above and below).

The highlight of the day was North Guam. The eastbound and westbound tracks are separated here with the north track closer to the cliffs. While signaled for bi-directional operation the north track is normally used by eastbound trains (above and five below).

Moving on to Prewitt, NM we photographed an eastbound tank train at the NM Rte. 19 grade crossing and then

a westbound where NM Rte. 23 passes under the tracks (above and two below).

OY Rotary Trip - 5, The second day

Hi, Dave and I elected to begin our second day at Topock, AZ; just across the Colrodo River from California. Shortly after we arrived Jim and Jay Kleeman, and Dwayne Litzenberger drove up allowing us another hour to visit before we separated.

While at Topock we photographed two eastbound trains (above and below).

Fortunately the stack train had DPUs (above and below).

We caught the stack train again at Yucca, AZ (above and two below).

While we were at Yucca a westbound showed up.

I had always wanted a photo of the signature Kingman, AZ water tank with a train in it. Check.

Continuing east we investigated Crozier Canyon where we photographed three westbound trains and one eastbound (above and four below).

This is the eastbound train.

We ended the day at Maine, about 19 miles west of Flagstaff, AZ where we spent the night. This eastbound stack train had DPUs (below).

This westbound was the final train for the day.

OY Rotary Trip - 4, The first day

Hi, After picking me up at the Ontario Airport about noon friend Dave Busse and I headed east. The plan was to spend the next 2 1/2 days photographing BNSF as we worked our way across California and Arizona, and 1/2 way across New Mexico.

Our first night would be spent in Needles, CA. A few weeks before I the trip I realized friends, Jim Kleeman, Jay Kleeman and Dwayne Litzenberger would be in the same general area at this time so we arranged to meet for dinner, a nice bonus.

Our first stop was in Ludlow, CA where we chose a location just west of town. Typical of the transcon there were plenty of trains. After a couple of east bounds (above and below) and

a westbound (above and below) we continued east.

Our second and final location of the day was Essex, CA where we got our kicks on the Historic Rte 66 bridge over the tracks. The train above is westbound.

It met an eastbound west of the bridge.

The DPU provided a nice glinty shot to end the day. Thanks for looking.
