A trip to Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Hi, On Wednesday, June 19 I set off with my good friend, Dale Diacont for a three day trip to the Philadelphia area. The occasion for the trip was the presentation of a program by Dale to the Wilmington Chapter of the NRHS.

As Dale was interested in checking out Annapolis Junction, MD we made that our first stop. I was surprised at the changes. Gone was the almost rural look supplanted by parking garages (one of which from which we photographed) and office buildings. We spent about 10 minutes on the aforementioned garage roof. In that period we photographed Vulcan Materials' U23B switching (above and three below)

and at the entrance to the plant.

Three other trains photographed from the roof were a northbound intermodal train with juice cars up front and a DPU mid train,

a north bound Camden Line MARC train with an MP36,

and a southbound MARC train pushed a new SC44 Charger locomotive (above and below).

We then headed for Philadelphia where, after lunch, we stopped at Radnor, PA on SEPTA's Route 100, the Norristown High Speed Line (above and three below).

Septa's Paoli Line crosses over the High Speed line at Radnor.

We then headed to Norristown for a round trip to the other end of the line at 69th street in Philadelphia. In the views above and below our train is arriving at the Norristown terminal.

The next post will cover the remainder of the day, which we spent on the Paoli Line/Amtrak's Harrisburg route.

Thanks for looking.
