Summerail Trip - 4

Hi, August 4th proved to be a slow day. First up was the Louisville & Indiana yard in Columbus, IN as the turns to Indianapolis originate there.

However, when we got to the yard everything was locked up and the only train present was the one from the night before. Since no one was around we drove to the head end and photographed the sitting train.

We then made the short drive south to Seymour, IN as we had learned from Tyler Guthrie, a contact of Bill's, that a northbound CSX manifest was due. While we missed the northbound manifest as it turned east onto CSX at Seymour it wasn't too long before we heard this northbound auto train on the radio. When he called the signal on the south side of town indicating he would continue north on the L&I we headed north to this location we had spotted on our way south earlier that morning (above and below).

As nothing else was in the picture we had lunch with Tyler and headed west.

We detoured off the main road in an attempt to at least get some roster shots of the Hoosier Southern in Tell City, however, it was not to be. The units were behind a locked gate and this was the only angle available.

Continuing west we encountered this west bound stopped and started looking for a photo location. We found it in Marengo, IN (above and below).

We easily beat the train to Taswell, IN where an eastbound manifest was waiting for it (above and below).

Here is the west bound manifest arriving in Taswell (above and below).

Our final shots were in the Newburgh,Yankeetown area of Indana. Here a coal train that had unloaded at the Warrick power plant owned by Alcoa is awaiting departure.

At Yankeetown we photographed three Squaw Creek Southern locomotives (above and two below). Numbers 20 and 21 are former Yankeetown Dock engines and number 21 is still in Yankeetown Dock paint.

Thanks for looking.
