Hi, The plan for the day was to follow the KCS north to Kansas City, photographing trains as we progressed. Unfortunately cooperation by the railroad in this plan was minimal.
Things started out well enough. We only got about 13 miles up the road when we heard a southbound calling signals on the south side of Decatur, AR, about a mile north of us. We caught the train just south of Decatur,
and twice between Decatur and Gentry (above and two below).
Our final shot was from the AR route 12 overpass in Gentry.
The train had a DPU on the rear.
We headed north again but turned around when we heard this southbound grain train. We returned to the route 12 overpass (above and below).
The presence of the NS unit trailing on the DPU was disappointing.
Back north we went a third time. On a prior trip to the area with Dale Diacont we found this low trestle in Sulfur Springs, AR to which I wanted to return. After a short wait we were rewarded with this southbound (above and below). Note the lack of northbounds. It is now almost 11:30 AM.
Our final location was at the first grade crossing north of Mulberry, KS at 4:30 PM. The railroad is in Missouri at this point. We knew there was another northbound about 50 miles behind this train but we were too far from Kansas City to wait for it.
Thanks for looking.
